weekly words of wisdom

i had someone remind me this morning that way back when i started writing in this space i used to post these wednesday words, it made me look back and remember how fun these posts are to write (thanks kenz!) so i’m going to work on bringing these back every wednesday!

what if i fall

1. i can’t remember where i first saw this, it was a while back and i love it. i’ve tried to remind myself of it at least once a day, especially in the last week or so and especially when it comes to this space. worrying doesn’t get us anywhere, it’s the risks and chances we take that get us to where we want to be. so what if you fall? you get back up and try something else, eventually you will fly.

2. if your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough:: why would you work for something if it doesn’t scare and excite you? chances are you won’t. set a dream that scares you because then you’ll do everything in your power to make it a reality, if it doesn’t scare you chances are it’s not worth it.

3. be who you are, not who the world wants you to be :: i think too often we are told what we need to be to fit into certain molds of society, how to be smart: go to college, how to be successful: get a 9-5 job in an office, how to be happy: find a significant other and get married etc. i also think our generation is breaking those molds and it’s so great to see and be a part of. don’t be afraid to be different and don’t let anyone tell you what you’re doing is the wrong way to do it.

4. if you really want to catch your dream you have to chase it:: you can’t sit around and expect good things to happen to you, get out there, take risks put yourself out there and chase your dreams- that’s the only way to make them become realities

5. enjoy every moment:: have fun, take risks, be stupid, enjoy your youth, enjoy your life, eat the piece of cake, go on the expensive trip, buy the shoes, learn from your mistakes, never regret anything. live your live to the fullest.

wednesday words of wisdom

positivity

i needed some positivity in my life this week, it’s been a stressful month and i’ve decided to try and get rid of as much of the negativity as i could to make room for some positive inspiration. i went on a search for 5 quotes that both inspired me and made me think about how i could work more positivity into my everyday life and here’s what i found!

1. enjoy every moment

so so important, and something i try to work into my every day thinking because oftentimes i think we take a lot for granted and tend to get set into a routine where we are going through the motions rather than living our lives. we only get one, why not enjoy everything about it and live it to the fullest?

2. worrying won’t stop the bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good

this is something i am definitely guilty of. it’s so hard sometimes to stop worrying about could go wrong and as a result we don’t enjoy the good parts of it. whether it’s stress about planning a party or worrying that a trip you’ve planned won’t go well, when you catch yourself getting stressed or worrying unnecessarily stop and try to just let things unfold and enjoy the good!

3. be the reason someone smiles today

this is pretty self explanatory, why wouldn’t you want to make someone smile. it could be as simple as holding the door for someone or complementing their outfit. it will make you feel better and could change the way their whole day is going.

4. in the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take

it’s so hard to try something new or take a leap of faith and step out of our comfor zones. i know i’m especially guilty of doing what i know and taking what may be considered the easy way because it’s familiar but this quote rang so true in my mind. in my life i’m not going to regret doing something i know will work or be enjoyable or whatever, it’s those things i didn’t try, that i didn’t step out of the box and go for that i’m going to regret.

5. sometimes what you’re most afraid of is the very thing that will set you free

this one goes along with the one above, take risks, step out of your comfort zone, take your dream job, take a leap of faith and go for it. you never know what could come of it

don’t judge a book by it’s cover

don't judge a book by it's cover

don’t judge a book by its cover:: it’s one of those sayings that we’ve all heard for 1,000 times, and when used in relation to people i think it’s such an important concept. in a society where looks and “beauty” hold a much greater importance than they should it’s important to remember to look past the exterior because the interior is what truly matters. appearance isn’t important but more than that, who are we to judge anyone? we all have our own imperfections and judging others by their appearance does not tell us anything about that person, it does however tell us plenty about ourselves.

with that said, when it comes to a book i am a firm believer of judging it by it’s cover. there are few things i love more than wandering through a book store and picking up a book that i’ve never heard of but that has an interesting, beautiful, striking, strange, even ugly cover. if it sticks out to me in any way i have a rule that i have to read it. even in the age of nooks, kindles and ipads if i see a cover of a book in the bookstore i’ll snap a picture of it on my phone and buy it on my nook later on. i love when friends, family or coworkers recommend books to me and i almost always read them but there’s something exciting about starting a book i know nothing about that i picked up solely based on the cover.

i’d say 9/10 times i thoroughly enjoy the book and even that 1/10 time i don’t love it i usually get something out of reading it. do you judge books by their cover? what was it and did you love it or hate it?

weekly words of wisdom

a little bit late is better than never. here is this week’s words of wisdom that have been on my mind this week. they center mostly around family and friends as i have been reminded time and time again over the last couple of months how important our family and friends are no matter how crazy they may drive us.

1. “being a family means you are part of something wonderful if means you will love and be loved of the rest of your life no matter what.” -anonymous

2. “ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten” -stitch

3. “good friends help you to find important things when you have lost them… your smile, your hope, and your courage.” -doe zantamata

4. “there is always, always, always something to be thankful for.” – anonymous

all of these quotes focus on the same thing regardless of whether you’re related by blood, close friends or an adopted alien from outer space, family means something, it means endless love and support no matter what you may be facing in your life. it means you will always have a home and people to love and care for you. this week was a great reminder to me how amazing family can truly be. i’ve watched a family come together and step up to the plate to truly support and care for j’s brother who is battling kidney cancer. the love and support that have come from people from all over truly reminded me how important it is to be thankful for family and friends because they are the ones who will always be there for you.

wednesday words of wisdom

this weeks wednesday words of wisdom are in honor of my birthday (which is on thursday!!!) 23 isn’t a big celebration birthday, it’s not 21 or 25, there’s no taylor swift song about it- it’s the limbo of your early twenties. because of this i feel like i’ve been reflecting more in the last few weeks than i usually do around my birthday, here are some quotes and words of wisdom that are on my radar this year during my birthday week.

1. i will hold myself to a standard of grace not perfection

i need to get better about this. life isn’t perfect- how boring would it be if it was? embracing and accepting the imperfections are what makes life more colorful though don’t you agree?

2. “it matters not what a person is born, but who they choose to be.” -j.k. rowling

the last six months have come with a series of crossroads, i’ve gone from a college student to an unemployed post-grad to an intern at disney world to a young professional in washington d.c. one thing i’ve learned is we create our paths by choosing which way to go. dare to be different and shoot for the stars.

3. “sometimes your only available transportation is a leap of faith” – margaret shepard

i think most twenty-something young adults, gals and guys, can relate to this, there are a lot of uncertainties that come along with graduating college and preparing for the dreaded “real world” and i’m a firm believer that sometimes you just have to go for it and see what happens

4. “you is kind, you is smart, you is important” -kathryn stockett

who doesn’t adore this quote from the help, i wish i had someone saying this to me every morning before i start my day don’t you? say it to yourself, say it to your friends, your family, your coworkers. because you are kind, smart and important!

5. “today me will live in the moment unless its unpleasant in which case me will eat a cookie” -cookie monster

i think this one is especially important to remember to not only embrace the present and live in the moment but not to stress and get super overwhelmed when that moment may not be picture perfect. this is something i have a hard time implementing, but who else would rather relax and eat a cookie rather than stress about everything that is going wrong?

what words of wisdom are on your radar right now?
